How can I find out what is going on at Chesnut?
In addition to flyers being sent home with your child, there are several ways that information is shared.
- Though our eNewsletter. Sign up HERE
- On the “Friends of Chesnut” page on Facebook
- On www.chesnutelementary.com (please note that the calendar on this site is our most up-to-date calendar of events)
- Through your Room Parent
What is the Courier?
Every Thursday a large manila envelope called the Courier will be sent home with each child, grades 1-5. It contains school-wide correspondence as well as information pertinent to your child or child’s grade.
Each week it may include information about upcoming events at school, opportunities to volunteer, graded papers, information from the DeKalb County Board of Education, etc. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will receive all of the same information, however it is sent home daily.
The Courier should be signed and returned each Friday.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
There are a number of different ways that you can volunteer at Chesnut.
The first opportunity is volunteering within your child’s classroom. Your child’s teacher and your room parent will request and coordinate the volunteer assistance needed for their classroom.
You can volunteer through participation on a Parent Teacher Council Action team ; these teams will post their regular meeting times and locations. Also you can consult our Volunteer Directory, our program and event chairs always welcome new volunteers!
